Winter Walks in Rannoch
Mondays
Kinloch Rannoch Village
Join us as we celebrate our new multi-use path as we show you the beauties of Kinloch Rannoch. This circular walk around the village includes the banks of the River Tummel, shores of Loch Rannoch and a delightful low level route across the hill below craggy Craig Varr. As we pass through some fine woodland, not only will we explore the natural features of these paths but we can tell you about the history of this ancient highland village. It is a great way to discover more about the whole area of Rannoch.

Black Wood of Rannoch
Walking in the Black wood, an area of ancient woodland, on the southern shore of Loch Rannoch, whatever the season or the weather is always fascinating. Learn about the trees which used to cover Scotland and how our wood was saved by someone’s misfortune. Explore the routes used by our ancestors; learn about the woodsmen of the past and how the forest works today. See evidence of deer, red squirrel and other creatures that live in the wood. Look across Loch Rannoch to the beautiful Grampian Mountains in the north.

Bridge of Gaur

This walk uses part of an ancient right of way known as ‘The Thieves’ Route’ which leads ultimately
to Bridge of Orchy however we will loop round to pass the site of the Redcoats Barracks. King
George’s soldiers were stationed here after the Battle of Culloden (1746). A walk steeped in history
across open moor land with by beautiful burns with grand views across the loch to the Grampian
hills behind. See Loch Rannoch from a different perspective; look out for moorland birds and perhaps even spot some red deer.
